Graham Archer plays the part of the happy "uncle-type" when
Mr. Smiles
Reads the Funnies every Sunday morning at 9:15 a.m. over KPTV Channel
27. Mr. Smiles goes through the gamut of emotions from pathos and
suspense to unbridled glee as he describes the antics of various Oregonian
comic strip characters to his viewers.
An interesting feature of the program is the "live" camera work.
The audience sees Mr. Smiles reading and describing the funnies then gets a
close-up view of the comic strip panels.
Although the program is only a month old, it is enjoying an enthusiastic
and increasing audience.
Plans are under way to organize a Sunshine Club to be headed by Mr.
Smiles. Admission will be open to youthful viewers who promise to do a
good deed every day. Future plans for the club include personal
appearances and projects to help bring cheer to needy children, shut-ins and
hospital patients.
Mr. Smiles Reads the Funnies is sponsored by the Sunshine Dairy
and is a Harvey and Porter production.
