Dog Tales, at 9:00 a.m. each Saturday on Station KPTV, is fast becoming a favorite with the children of this telecast area.  Sponsored by Blue Mountain Dog Foods (Hervin Company), and Fred Meyer, Dog Tales is designed especially for the child's enjoyment and potential participation.

All children between ages six to 12 are eligible to appear on the telecast if they write a letter to "Uncle Mac" telling why they would like to own a dog, or if they have one, relate some unusual or heroic experience he has performed.

"Uncle Mac," known to adult audiences as Bob McCarl of Radio Station KLIQ, is emcee on Dog Tales.

Each child with a dog appearing on the telecast receives a picture of the dog sketched during the show by artist Lois Harding, and a supply of dog food.  The child without a dog receives a pedigreed cocker spaniel puppy and supply of the sponsor's product.

Unlike many juvenile programs, the show makes no pretense of being for anything other than for the youngsters' enjoyment.  The "stars" of the show are the child and the dog.

The application letters are thoughtful and often-time humorous.  Such enthusiasm is illustrated in the following letters:

"Uncle Mac" interviews a young guest and her pet.

Dear Uncle Mac,

I had a puppy -- he ran away
I wish I had one that would stay.

     I had a Fish -- he was a guppy
          But now he's died -- I'd like a puppy.

I'd brush him and comb him
          Nice as you please

     And even help scratch him
          If he ever gets Fleas.

                    Kay Stickney
                    Aged 12

Another youngster wrote:

My dog is a poodle.  She loves to go up and slide down slippery slides.  I listen to you.  I like your show.

                    Malissa Cox
                    Aged 8

Several children could appear on each show... as long as they stayed out of the dog house.

Another little girl found it was necessary to give her poodle dog away because her "Polly" parrot had been picking and chewing at him.  The youngster continued to say that now "Polly" is very hungry and could she please have some dog food for her parrot.

Dog Tales is a Gross and Strauss production.
