Birdie" set. |

Glenna Page is the star of
"Watch the Birdie," one of the most phenomenally successful children's
television programs ever produced in the Portland area.
In the short six weeks it has
been on the air, "Watch the Birdie" has swamped KPTV, over which it is
telecast each Saturday morning, with over 10,000 letters from boys and girls
hoping to share in the hundreds of dollars of exciting prizes, by answering the
cartooned "crazy bird" questions.
Every child may participate in
the fun and prizes by sending in his name, address, and phone number, along with
the product name cut from Sunshine Milk cartons, the ABC or Red Arrow cookie
packages, or a reasonably accurate hand-drawn facsimile. If their name is drawn
from one of the "crazy bird" cages, they will be telephoned during the
program by Miss Birdie, Glenna Page, and if they can answer their cartooned
question, they will not only receive a handsome prize award, but also have a
chance at the jackpot prizes, including bicycles, record players and radios.
It is truly a colorful and
exciting show, as well as having an exceedingly high educational value, as
witnessed by the letters of comment from hundreds of parents. Its sponsors,
Sunshine Dairy, ABC and Red Arrow Cookies, along with the program's producer, H.
Richard Seller, can be commended for giving the children of this area another
fine half hour of wholesome entertainment.

In spite of this popularity (or
perhaps, because of it) Watch the Birdie left KPTV in June and
was
airing on
KOIN (6) by August of 1956.
