 The 10 O'Clock News Beginning in the winter of 1970, KPTV began producing a nightly 10pm newscast, seven nights a week. The first nightly effort in the Portland market, the move was effective counter-programming to the traditional 11pm newscasts on the network affiliates. Although, at times, KPTV has faced direct news competition at this hour, first from KVDO (3) in Salem; later KPDX (49), and after consolidating with KPDX, from KGW broadcasting on KPXG (22), the PAX affiliate, The 10 O'Clock News continues to lead the pack. To better cover the various anchor teams and on-air looks of this program, it has been divided into four decades.
